Could Chunky Trainers Be Making Their Comeback This Autumn?

Chunky trainers have had their moment over the last few years, but 2024 has felt like the year of the Samba, Gazelle, and a much slimmer style of sneaker.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Gazelles as much as the next girl, but chunky trainers really do offer the ultimate in terms of comfort, and I love a more laid back vibe, especially during the colder months, so hearing that a bigger sneaker is making its way back into the limelight made me very happy!

Here are five chunky trainers that are on my wishlist.

Axel Arigato Marathon Neo Leather and Mesh Runner Trainers

A sleek blend of leather and mesh, the Axel Arigato Marathon Neo is a perfect for chunky minimalism. With its neutral tones and layered textures, these trainers combine modern street style with a sporty silhouette. The supportive structure and breathable materials make it both a practical and stylish choice for those looking to invest in a statement sneaker without being overly flashy.

Nike V2K Run

For a bolder take on the Nike V2K, the unisex version also comes in a variety of colour-ways. Whether you’re going for an athleisure look (love this style), or just want to elevate your casual outfits, these shoes pack both style and function. The exaggerated sole and breathable upper make them great for everyday wear, especially as the temperatures drop.

New Balance U9060ESD

New Balance has long been known for its chunky trainers, and is a personal favourite of mine. Featuring a distinctive oversized sole, these trainers offer maximum support and durability. With their retro-futuristic design and signature New Balance comfort, they’re perfect for pairing with everything from relaxed denim to tailored trousers.

Veja Venturi Alveomesh – White Pierre Natural

Veja is known for its eco-friendly approach to sneakers, and the Venturi Alveomesh is no different. The chunky silhouette is softened by the neutral white and natural tones, making it a more understated option for those looking to embrace the chunky trainer trend without being too urban. With its sustainable materials and ethical production, this trainer is as good for the planet as it is for your style.
